Click an item type on the sidebar, then click the orange "Upload" button below to start uploading your own creation to Whirled.

Whirled players can add their own creations to Whirled for use and sale by uploading from their computer to Whirled. The upload can be done from the Stuff tab in Whirled. To start the upload process, go to your Stuff tab, and click on one of the item types listed along the top of the page. The options are:

General uploading tips:

  • Make sure you are uploading the right file type for the type of item you have chosen to upload! File type requirements are at the top of the uploading screen. If you try to upload the wrong file, you will get an error message when you try to save.
  • Once you have selected a file to upload in the Upload screen, it may take some time for your file to transfer to the server, so take this time to fill out all the other information on the Upload screen. If you click "Save" too soon, you'll get the error "This item requires further configuration." When the file is fully uploaded, then you will be able to save successfully.
  • Remember to add a thumbnail image! Thumbnail images are the small pictures that show up in the list of items on your Stuff tab, and also what appear to other players in the Shop if you list your item there. Some item types without thumbnails, such as music or video, get generic default images and are less likely to pique the curiosity of other players browsing the Shop. For some types of items, the place to add a thumbnail is located on the "Extras" or "Media" tab of the upload screen. Sometimes people add a personal watermark to their thumbnails.
  • Uploaded items, and their names and descriptions, must comply with Whirled's Community Standards and Terms of Service.

Avatars

Only .SWF files can be uploaded as avatars in Whirled. If you would like to wear a static image as an avatar (because who doesn't want to wander around as a LOLcat sometimes?), you should consider purchasing the inexpensive Easy Image Avatar and using the Remix option to add your static image to it.

  1. Choose Stuff -> Avatars to see the avatars you own.
  2. Scroll down to the "How do I get stuff?" section.
Click "Upload" to bring up the interface.
  3. Click the Upload... button to get the avatar uploading interface.

Furniture

Furniture can be uploaded as a .SWF, or as a still image format such as a .GIF, .JPG, or .PNG. Bitmap images (.BMP) are not accepted by Whirled, and animated .GIF files do not show up as animated when used in a Whirled room.

If your creation is interactive--that is, if players can click on it or speak to it to make it do things--you may wish to consider uploading your item as a toy instead of as furniture.

  1. Go to Stuff -> Furniture
  2. Scroll down to the "How do I get stuff?" section.
